Environmentally backing

Textile and felt backings are also manufactured in an environmentally version, where the sticking together of carpet and backing is performed by an extruded Polypropylene (PP) film.
No carpet fillings are used in this process. If the carpet yarn is PP, the whole carpet can be manufactured in PP, and this gives the possibility of recycling the carpet. Further environmental advantages are:

• A 70 per cent saving in energy consumption
• No water consumption in the process
• No drying process and consequently no fumes caused by this process
• Lower weight and consequently transport savings

The mechanical characteristics fully live up to traditional latex carpets, and the dimension stability is even higher. Unfortunately, the process is more expensive and the backing price is approx. 20 per cent higher.
